STEP 2: Familiarize yourself with the lesson plans/activities/assignments for each unit.

Each lesson plan includes the following sections:

Blue Sidebar

USOE GFL Tie: shows which Utah State Office of Education standard you will be meeting by teaching the lesson.

Puzzle Tie: tells you which piece(s) of the financial puzzle you will cover in the lesson.

Teaching Time: the amount of estimated time it could take to teach the material (in minutes, not class periods).

Materials: Quick bullet list of everything you will need to teach the lesson.

Lesson Outline

Teacher's Overview: tells you what you need to understand to teach the lesson and how each lesson correlates with the prior lesson; will show how the program is progressing from one concept to the next and what will be required from the teacher to tie these concepts.

Learning Objective: includes what the sutdents should learn from the lesson.

Lesson Plan: includes ideas for individual and group student activities, tools for teaching concepts (and in some cases actual presentation verbage), Web links, student materials for presenting the lessons concepts, and where applicable assignments for involving parents in the lesson.

Important Note: Because each of the lesson plans correlate with each other and concepts build from one idea to the next, it is vital that teachers review the entire course in order to assess before they begin the course, the timeframes needed to teach the material and how it will be presented.

Student Workbook

The Money Mastery GFL program includes a Student Workbook, which provides all listening assessments, worksheets, study sheets, quizzes, and other materials referenced in the lesson plans. The workbook is perforated, allowing students to tear out worksheets and assignments and turn them in for credit. If your school did not purchase these books for each student, copies of the student materials are included in your teacher's GFL curriculum binder with the corresponding lesson plan.

Student Activities

Ideas for student activities are included in each lesson plan; the handouts, worksheets, study sheets, or other materials required for some student activities are included in the teacher's GFL binder and the Student Workbook.

Parent Activities/Involvement

The Money Mastery GFL program is designed around getting parents/guardians personally involved and actively applying the important financial concepts taught in the course. Certain lesson plans will include activities for parents who wish to participate in the GFL program with their student. All necessary forms, assessments, and assignments for parents are included in the teacher's GFL binder and in the Student Workbook.

PowerPoint Presentations

The GFL teacher curriculum binder includes a CD with all PowerPoint presentations for the course. If your classroom has computer and A/V equipment, you can show the presentations straight from CD, or you can print the presentations and make overhead slides. Each lesson will refer to a Listening Assessment that you will want to administer after the PowerPoint presentation to identify what the students have learned. These Listening Assessments are included in the Student Workbook and in the teacher's GFL curriculum binder.
